Maitake has been shown to inhibit tumor growth in several studies. It may also help reduce blood pressure and raise HDL (the so-called "good") cholesterol. Maitake mushroom has shown beneficial effects in cancer patients and is also taken to relieve some of the side effects of chemical treatment (chemotherapy) for cancer.
